SLIGO COMPANY CLINCHES SEEDCORN REGIONAL WINNER PRIZE

Co Sligo company GroupNos Technologies is guaranteed to walk away from InterTradeIreland’s Seedcorn Competition with at least €25,000, having triumphed in the Connacht and Leinster regional finals stage of the competition to take the prize for Best Emerging Company.

The company, which develops software for the healthcare industry, will now go forward to the all-island finals in Dublin on November 26 where they are in with a chance to scoop one of two overall top prizes of €100,000.

Based in the Business Innovation Centre, IT Sligo, GroupNos Technologies started out working with business incubation programme CEIM, which is offered by IT Sligo and Letterkenny IT and which is managed by WESTBIC. CEIM provides mentoring and support to early stage companies (www.CEIM.ie).

The company now develops two medical software systems, both of which are marketed in the UK, Europe, Australia and North America.

The first, GroupNos Collaborate EHR (Electronic Health Record), is system that facilitates collaboration between clinicians, patients and healthcare managers in a manner that supports superior patient outcomes. It is designed to directly to address areas of waste and overspending in the health industry.

The second, GroupNos Community Platform, is a social software framework for clinical communities, providing a solution to key issues with Behavioural Healthcare organisations.

Chief Technology Officer Enda Madden said: “We are really delighted to have won this regional final of the competition and look forward to taking part in the next stage.

“The competition entry process of writing the business plan, supported by WESTBIC,  was very useful for us and winning this stage has been a great validation for our business model and our potential in the overseas market.”

Liam Nellis, chief executive of InterTradeIreland, the all-island business development body which runs Seedcorn, commented: “GroupNos Technologies is a very worthy regional winner and is a good example of how hard work and innovation quickly pays off when establishing and growing a new company.

“Together with all the other regional winners, GroupNos Technologies will now have access to some of Ireland’s top investment experts who will advise them on how best to develop their business in the current economic climate and accelerate growth in preparation for the upturn.”

Acting Operations Manager Grainne Lennon said: “The InterTradeIreland all-island Seedcorn business competition recognises companies, no matter how small or young, with the best ideas and potential for commercial success across the island. Kinometrics are a shining example in this regard.”

GroupNos Technologies will join Wicklow-based Kinometrics Limited, who won the title for Best High Growth Company in the same regional final, and six other regional winners from Dublin, Munster and Northern Ireland to vie for the all-island titles.

‘Learn Irish on the iPhone’

Maithú launch ‘Get the Focal’ Irish Translator

on the iPhone app store

Thursday 23rd September, 2009:
What’s the Irish for “handy”?  Find the word and how to pronounce it in seconds with ‘Get the Focal’, now available on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

The ‘Get the Focal’ iPhone application contains over 13,000 translations and links to the correct pronunciations ‘as gaeilge’.   The database of translations is stored in the application so it translates instantly without the need to connect to the internet.  It is quick and accurate, can be used for completing that Irish assignment, reading articles as Gaeilge, or filling in a ‘cúpla focal’ here and there.  Or if you are looking for something completely random just shake the phone and see what appears.

The application is available for the month of September at a special introductory price of €1.59 and can be downloaded from iPhone app store via the link: http://www.getthefocal.com/get_it/iphone/

According to CEO, Kerrill O’Droighnéain “Its great to have our first application approved and available on the iPhone app Store.  We will be releasing other applications with great content over the coming months, including the full O’Domhnaill dictionary and an Irish phrasebook.”

Maithú will be releasing their applications on  Nokia’s Ovi store, Google’s Android store and the Samsung app store phone markets in the coming months so even if you do not have an iPhone you will still get the chance to try them out.

Our database of translations for this application has been developed over a number of years and has been approved by the Irish language body Foras na Gaeilge.   The original ‘Get the Focal’ translator can be installed on most mobile handsets by texting the word ‘focal’ to 53503(IRL); 82222(UK) and downloading it via the return wap link.

Success in Silicon Valley

August 6th, 2009

Last week, 7 CÉIM technology start-up companies based in IT Sligo and LYIT returned from a successful trade mission to Silicon Valley, California, where they met with more than 40 entrepreneurs, technologists, advisors and potential investors.

CEIM is an enterprise development programme in the North West of Ireland. It is offered by the Institute of Technology Sligo and Letterkenny Institute of Technology The power of the Irish network was very evident during our visit to Silicon Valley. Of note, was a networking event organised by Tom Horgan, the Irish Network San Francisco to provide introductions for the group. It was attended by about 75 people, including Irish-American business people from Silicon Valley who shared advice on how Irish startups can expand their business in the US. Leslie Murdock, an investor and financial adviser to tech startups in the valley was one of three Silicon Valley experts on tech startups who conducted the panel discussion to coincide with the trade mission. He noted, “there is a great culture in Silicon Valley of giving back.” Murdock and the other panelists urged Irish entrepreneurs hoping to get established in Silicon Valley to connect with Irish-Americans, many of whom would be happy to introduce them around. “You need to get a toehold in here and use other expats already here to get into their network,” added Doug Kelly, a founder of Alloy Ventures and an investor in medical device companies.

The group also met with other Irish influencers including; Seamus McAteer, a telecommunications entrepreneur, Stuart Coulson an investor and entrepreneur and Aisling MacRunnels, a senior executive at Sun Microsystems. They also met with the Irish consulate and Father McBride, who is originally from Donegal and runs the San Francisco Irish Pastoral Center. However, true to its reputation as a cultural melting point, the group conducted key meetings with entrepreneurs and technologists from India, Germany and of course, the USA.

Selected CÉIM participants who travelled to Silicon Valley include: Aidan McKenna, Soko Health; Enda Madden, GroupNos Software; Gerry Burke, Synergy Flow; James McGloin, EoinTec Solutions; John McNamara, JB Interactive; Johnny Beirne, Text-a-Track and Heinrich Anhold, Epona Biotech. The CÉIM participants are now back in Ireland and actively following up on the contacts and advice they got last week.

Company Name: Groupnos Software

Company Overview: GroupNos provides clinical groupware software used by clinicians, patients and managed care companies for mental health and behavioral health. Future versions are in the pipeline for other chronic conditions such as diabetes, chronic heart and lung conditions and chronic pain.

GroupNos Feedback is the only real time analysis and feedback tool on the market that provides real time session by session information to patients in order to allow them to inform the direction of their treatment. Our proprietary algorithms allow patients to see their current and predicted progress in treatment versus other patients with the same condition and comparative level of health. It is also the only practice management software that replicates a group practice environment for clinicians. Clinicians who work in Group practice environments have been shown to achieve superior patient outcomes to single person practices.

GroupNos Outcomes provides real time reports and dashboards to case managers in managed care organizations and health insurance companies to monitor the progress of cases from a number of practices or in a region and the quality of service delivery. Current pre and post treatment surveys do not provide real time indicators of service delivery quality and do not allow case administrators to proactively detect and intervene for at risk cases.

GroupNos Excellence is an international community for clinicians to engage with other professionals, share information on clinical excellence, receive accredited professional training and promote their practice and services. Our tiered rating system ranks providers in the network based on engagement with other members and their clinical effectiveness based on capturing feedback from patients.

GroupNos also provides a range of information solutions to our customers.

For managed care organizations GroupNos provides business intelligence on quality of service delivery and vital information on the performance of clinicians on their network of providers. This allows these organizations to discover true value of their provider network and differentiate on the healthcare marketplace based on the quality of their provider network.

For pharmaceutical and healthcare investor organizations GroupNos provides sentiment analysis on particular healthcare trends and products based on user activity within our network. The STM (Scientific, Technical and Medical) is a $10 Billion industry. Our information is real time and of a higher value than many technical and academic reports which are very often lower on the value curve for organizations looking to react to industry trends.

Trinity Innovations’ solutions are also available for Microsoft Windows Users.

Additionally, 3D Issue has an integrated tracking solution which allows publishers to monitor viewer’s habits which provides valuable marketing information.

Trinity Innovations focuses on product development rather than providing a digital publishing service for clients. The company has continued to release new versions of their software ensuring that each release is packed with new features to ensure existing clients choose to purchase upgrades which generate brand loyalty and recurring revenue streams. Some of Trinity Innovation’s clients include internationally recognized companies from publishing and other industries, including: McGraw Hill, CBS, Sky broadcasting, BP, Macy’s NYC, Version USA, University of California at Berkeley, Telstra, European Space Agency and the American Bar Association.
